Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius."

Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant Parks keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh.

Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up. Melanie doesn't know why this makes Miss Justineau look sad.

When I finally started reading this book I already know it was about zombies. And even though I'm a big fan of movies or TV series, in a book it just sounds... Strange. To me, I'm not saying it's the book's fault!
But the beginning, what was "promised" on the cover, was a lot more interesting than all that middle of the book. The end was interesting, and a nice twist. The reason why the zombie breakout starts is quite new and seems perfectly possible.
It had interesting characters, it was a nice read at times, but not really my cup of tea, and IMO it didn't deliver as much as promised.
