Interesting book, with a modern day story parallelling one from the 1920s. I preferred the older story.

Great to meet you and thanks for the book. I've read two of Vine's other novels. One good one bad, but the good one (No Night is Too Long) was so good I'm prepared to take the risk.
There's much to admire here. The novel consists of strata of stories. In the centre the story of the child's child, bracketed by the frame story. Above that you have the author, Vine, with the reality of Rendell over all. And below it all you have the Bible with its stories. Lots of Biblical references.
Unfortunately I could not give a damn about any of the characters and clever fictional mechanics are not enough to carry me through. It is something a little out of the ordinary though and I think the right person is going to love this.
