This book is the first in Montgomery's (Anne of Green Gables Series.) I recommend you read the Series in order. This copy was printed in 1987 but is intact although tanned and a little brittle.

Some people mistakenly think it is the only book she ever wrote but she was the author of over 20 full novels and more than 500 short stories-usually published in collections of 15 to 20 stories. She is read and loved by adults as well as children. Her books have been translated into seventeen languages and are popular around the world. They are even required reading in some Japanese schools.

The Cuthberts of Green Gables had decided to adopt an orphan-a nice sturdy boy to help Matthew with the farm chores. The orphanage sent a girl instead-a mischievous, talkative read head who'd be no use at all. She would just have to go back. But the longer Anne was there, the more no one could imagine Green Gables without her.

I'm very happy to read your Journal Entry about "Anne of Green Gables." Lucy Maud Montgomery is one of my favorite authors. Reading about the children's games, interactions, and troubles remind me of when I was a child. Like Anne we had to help around the house and dream up play activities to keep us busy. Like Anne, we didn't have TV's, telephones, computers, or electronic toys. We used our imaginations for play activities and spent lots of time out of doors being active. I think it was a happier childhood than children experience today. And, the world seemed a safer place, too.

Hope this note finds you happy and busy!
