Afterimage is the story of Annie Phelan, an impoverished Irish maid who arrives at the country estate of a couple living in a seemingly bloodless marriage. For them, Annie is an innocent, a blank slate upon which they can project their own desires and failed dreams. But as Annie matures, she finds herself caught between the torments of her hardscrabble past and her hopes for a future free of servitude. Jealousy, betrayal and erotic longing intertwine as the story sweeps to its riveting conclusion.
