Publishers Weekly says:
Set in 1951, Bradley’s exceptional seventh series whodunit (after 2014’s The Dead in Their Vaulted Arches) takes Flavia de Luce, a preteen with an interest in poisons, from her family home in Bishop’s Lacey, England, to Canada, where she is to attend her late mother’s alma mater, Miss Bodycote’s Female Academy. On Flavia’s very first night there, a fellow student, P.A. Collingwood, bursts into her room and reveals that three other girls have disappeared. When the head of school, Miss Fawlthorne (aka the Hangman’s Mistress), knocks at Flavia’s door, Collingwood flees up the chimney, dislodging a mummified corpse and detaching its skull. This intriguing setup only gets better, and Bradley makes Miss Bodycote’s a suitably Gothic setting for Flavia’s sleuthing. Through it all, her morbid narrative voice continues to charm (e.g., “If you’re anything like me, you adore rot. It is pleasant to reflect on the fact that decay and decomposition are what make the world go round”). Agent: Denise Bukowski, Bukowski Agency. (Jan.)

Finally! Flavia is back. Although I'm still not sure whether to like the whole Nide-thing I'm happy that Flavia once again impresses us with her general knowledge, chemistry in particular and also with her wit and word play. Cannot wait for the next book!!!

Flavia will go to England with me tomorrow to spend some time with kinedi and BLu177 before she will return to me and then to linguistkris.
After that the book will be added to my pc for further reference - you never know when there will be need for a Marsh test...

I have to admit this was not my most favourite Flavia book. I felt too many questions were left answered even though I do suspect that this is a cunning plan and perhaps we will find out more in the next books. On the same token, why was this book set in Toronto ? It did nothing to the story line but again I suspect it may become clearer in the future. Reading it left me as always wanting more so I shall await the next Flavia adventure back in England.
Book will be returned to miss_malihini in December as promised.

Flavia! Come right in, dear. You're right up after Loretta, if you don't mind. (Also, travels to Canada -- how timely! :))

Well wow. Somehow, this book managed to come up at just the right moment -- after havig spent almost two years on my shelves. (Yes, almost; I'm afraid it's been quite a while since I read it.) I was going to write this really gushing journal entry and quote all the best bits that touched me... and then the months passed and I forgot, as per usual.
Anyway, I really, really enjoyed this. The only thing that slightly annoys me is that I have been pronouncing Flavia wrong the whole time (i.e. the continental way -- and still think that FLAH-vee-a sounds a lot prettier).
