Over two weeks, three guests enter Room 13 at the Manor Hotel, but none comes out alive...
When a married man seemingly kills himself at a local hotel, Kempston Hardwick is not so sure the death was suicide.
As he tries to convince the police to investigate, Kempston yet again throws himself into an investigation where all is not as it seems, but not before the Manor Hotel is home to more suspicious deaths...

This series & author were unknown to me & for some reason I was expecting it to be a period thriller. While the name Kempston Hardwick added to that assumption the odd mention of smartphones & facebook put me straight.
Anyhow none of that had an adverse effect on my enjoyment of the book as I found it thoroughly entertaining. Its a very good murder mystery in what I'd class as the more traditional vein - by that I mean its not gory & gruesome but yet it has a lot more about it than a "cosy mystery"!
Kempton & Ellis are a great coupling & coming in at book 4 as I have done, I'm intrigued to learn more about their friendship & past (I'm sure there was a fleeting mention of a Mrs F....can't imagine what she must be like!)
I'm certainly looking forward to reading more of this series....can't say fairer than that :o

Thank you very much, plum, for the wonderful box of books and goodies the postman brought me. The Christmas card is on the door where we display them and the two wrapped surprises are under the Christmas tree. Yes, we've already decorated the house this year, started on the 1st, far, far earlier than we normally would . . . but it's not been a normal year - and we all need all the colour and light we can get as the days get darker and more wintry!
Looks like the sort of mystery I enjoy. I don't recognise the author's name but will willingly give him a go . . . Thanks again!

What a weird book! As well as the possible murder/suicides you'd expect in a mystery, it wanders off into the paranormal and fundamentalist religious mania and goodness knows what else . . . very weird!
