Chesil Beach has come in discussions at our Readers group recently because we read Remarkable Creatures which is set there, and one of our readers went to visit. So when I noticed this pristine volume at the Galetas, where second-hand books are sold by weight, I nabbed it quickly. A shortish novel, about a relationship in the early 1960s, a honeymoon in a hotel near the beach, and sexual experience, or rather - lack of it. The book is also set partly in Oxford, where Florence's parents have a house just off Banbury Road, and I liked treading in familiar places.
