Journal Entry 1 by karendawn from Lafayette, Indiana USA on Saturday, February 14, 2004
The sequel to 84, Charing Cross Road. From the back cover: In 1970 Helene Hanff wrote 84, Charing Cross Road, a record of a postal love affair with England through a twenty-year correspondence with a London bookseller. In both hardcovers and Equinox paperback edition, the book found thousands of devoted readers. Their fervent wish--and hers above all--was that she go to England. Now at last in The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street that dream comes true.

Journal Entry 2 by karendawn from Lafayette, Indiana USA on Sunday, May 09, 2004
What a wonderful book, made even more so by having my own experiences in London. I understand completely when she first arrived in London but didn't feel that it was London. I loved reading her experiences while there. And the ending was also exactly as I felt and feel: "The plane lifted - and suddenly it was as if everything had vanished [...] None of it had happened, none of it was real."

Almost as charming as the letters. Even though it was written thirty years ago some things don't seem to change in London! Will be travelling to Olifant next week.

'I tried to tell her that if you've dreamed of seeing the Abbey and St. Paul's and the Tower all your life, and one day you find yourself actually there, they can't disappoint you.' Helene is not at all disappointed in anything in London and surroundings, along with people she's never seen or talked before. She feels like a Duchess. It's a good, quick read and humourous. Of course she meets with Nora and Sheila, but I had thought she would write more about them. I like the way in which she describes PB (who always writes notes in haste) and The Colonel. Thanks karendawn for sharing the two books of Helene Hanff with us! EDIT: Books have never been journalled by xadai or got lost in the mail
