I've read all the Dorothy Sayers books and while this isn't my favourite it's right up there. A doctor overhears Peter and Insp. Parker talking about mysterious deaths and offers to contribute one. When an elderly woman dies a little sooner than expected people are prepared to say that the doctor got his come uppance, for presuming to know when someone will die and they don't think too much more since the estate went exactly where the old lady wanted it to go. Peter thinks there's something odd about it any way and starts to investigate. He sends Miss Climpson, a maiden lady of high church proclivities, and one of Miss Sayers' greatest inventions. Love Miss Climpson!
