Having seen the movie "Brokeback Mountain" based on Proulx's eponymous short story, I thought I'd take the opportunity to read one of her books.
Today's lowlight: there was a BC picknick in town and I had missed the thread (and thus the opportunity) - but I saw Za-ida from afar and met windhexe and zaunkoenigin by chance.

Proulx's characters from the Texas panhandle are colorful, interesting, quirky and some downright fascinating.
The story of an undercover site scout from Colorado working for industrial farming (hog farms, in particular) and trying to get the locals to sell their land to his employer has many twists and turns and is very entertaining. Well, seems like the days of Tom T. Hall's song "Who's Gonna Feed Them Hogs" are long gone, if not yet forgotten.

For tonight's meetup.
Eine feine Geschichte, die den Wilden Westen heraufbeschwört, sowohl der Vergangenheit wie auch der Gegenwart. Unbedingt lesen.
