With this book I participate in Finnish forum in the challenge Perehdy ammattiin lukemalla (learn about a profession by reading a book). Thomas Lynley is a superintendent. It can be very hard for a police to do his work, if there has been any serious crimes directed to his own life. When questoning people, there may be many unpleasant comments, that'll remind own incidents time after time.

In the book there are also people who are doing surf boards. There are many stages when doing a board, e.g. shaping, glassing, spraying, hand sanding.
