This book took me by surprise. I was expecting an implausible story, completely weird but maybe fun to read. What I found was a well-elaborated account of the life of Abraham Lincoln who, after his mother got murdered by a vampire, dedicated a big part of his life to hunting and killing vampires which also leaves an imprint on his political career as he soon discovers a strong link between slavery and vampires...
A story that is indeed completely weird but also disturbingly supported by quotations, old-looking drawings and photographs and maybe more convincing than one might wish because "vampire" seems to be such a good description for slaveholders.
The narrative contains too many detailed scenes of violence for my taste and the descriptions of fights were sometimes a little tedious but apart from this, I have found this novel hard to put down - fascinating, dark and often disturbingly realistic.
