How long had that nightmare been there?' The people of Streech village had never trusted the three women living up at the Grange -- not since Phoebe Maybury's husband suddenly, inexplicably, vanished. Ten years later a corpse is discovered in the grounds and Phoebe's nightmare begins. For once they have identified the body the police are determined to charge her with murder ...'The most impressive first novel in years' Daily Telegraph 'A seductive writer with an imagination that makes her dangerous to know' Sunday Express 'Terrific first novel with a high Rendellesque frisson count' The Times

I received the book together with "some" others from the 1000-books-list at the meetup on january 28th. I'm often surprised by the wide range of books who made it on the list...

Thanks a lot for this one too!

2. September 2016:

Once started it was read quickly as the story is quite exciting. Although I had the solution for the dead man in the Ice house quite early on (the missing reports over all) there was quite enough background or more to say surrounding stories to discover. The points of view are very well chosen, the psychology of the figures worked out in an interesting way. Most of all I loved how many people started to be quite unlikeable at the beginning but turned out to be very decent characters.
All in all a book I realy loved reading as a mostly entertaining piece of work :-)
