Go To Sleep
5 journalers for this copy...
Hours from now, Rachel Massey will become a mother. Terrified and excited, there is nothing she wants more. But motherhood is not as she had imagined. The sleepless nights turn to weeks, the weeks to months, and while Rachel loves her son as much as any mother, she can't escape the feeling that something has gone terribly wrong. Honest, uplifting and often shocking, Go To Sleep is a powerful and heart-wrenching story.

Reserved for Icila; I will read it first.
I started reading it last evening. :)
I finished reading it some days ago, but for some reason never had time to journal it. And what a frightening novel!
Please understand me, this is not horror by any means, but the story of this single mum who wants to live her pregnancy and childbirth by herself, and finds herself faced with the cruel reality... wow!
I was particularly impressed by the hospital nurse sending her home once and again because "there were no beds" and "she was still not ready to give birth". I kept thinking about Rachel going up the stairs to her flat in her advanced pregnancy state, and of course then there was no time... I would have stayed in the waiting room, mind you.
Everything is negative and frightening for poor Rachel; her baby keeps crying and she faces the lack of understanding by other mums in the ward, and later on when she takes her baby home, the lack of sleep. Besides, she finds it very difficult to ask for help, which is available for her.
All in all, as I say, I find this is a terrifying account, and I kept expecting something awful to happen.
Thanks for sharing, Chawoso; this book has been in my bookshelf (the real one) for a long time, and now it's time to continue its travels...
