Adam, the protagonist of A Boy at War, has moved to California after his father was killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

When his best friend, Davi, asks him for help, Adam must confront his feelings: the Japanese attackers killed Adam's father, but Davi is a Japanese American whose father has been imprisoned by the American government. Should Adam hold Davi and his family responsible for his own father's death?
