I was taking a walk during my lunch break, just to get out of the office for a few minutes, really, and I happened to see this book sitting on one of the tables outside Starbucks, back after several months. I made a mental note to make a journal entry, and left it there for another reader to find.

Flipped through it and decided I need a little sci-fi diversion at night. Looked like the kind of science fiction novels I would read in middle school.

Interesting premise. The Sun is predicted to become more radiant which will wipe out life on Earth. Thousands of lifeships are quickly created and the pilots of the lifeships are charged with choosing one person out of every 300 to make the journey to Mars. Mars will become more hospitable due to Sun's increased radiance. The novel deals with one pilot's experiences in picking 10 worthy people, the journey to Mars, and the settling of the survivors' colony. Not bad although, the ending felt rushed. I am sure Neil DeGrasse Tyson would have a field day poking holes in physics mistakes - especially the habitable Martian atmosphere.
