"In Death At La Fenice, Donna Leon's first novel in the Commissario Brunetti series, readers were introduced to the glamorous and cut-throat world of opera and to one of Italy's finest living sopranos, Flavia Petrelli – then a suspect in the poisoning of a renowned German conductor. Now, many years after Brunetti cleared her name, Flavia has returned to the illustrious La Fenice to sing the lead in Tosca.

As an opera superstar, Flavia is well acquainted with attention from adoring fans and aspiring singers. But when one anonymous admirer inundates her with bouquets of yellow roses – on stage, in her dressing room and even inside her locked apartment – it becomes clear that this fan has become a potentially dangerous stalker. Distraught, Flavia turns to an old friend for help. Familiar with Flavia's melodramatic temperament, Commissario Brunetti is at first unperturbed by her story, but when another young opera singer is attacked he begins to think Flavia's fears may be justified. In order to keep his friend out of danger, Brunetti must enter the psyche of an obsessive fan and find the culprit before anyone comes to harm."

Sain kirjan ystävältäni bc-tarkoituksiin. Koska en itse lue englantia ja mielessäni on tälle kirjalle lukija, merkitsen tämän nyt varatuksi. Koska kirja on melko uusi eikä Suomessa näytä olevan vielä toista bc-kappaletta, toivoisin, että se voisi ennen villiä vapautusta kiertää Leonia englanniksi lukevilla bookcrossareilla.

I must read this quite soon.

I clearly have too many books as this got under a pile or mountain of them.
This story started so bloodily that I thought "Did not Donna Leon say at the Book Fair in Turku, that she agrees with a famous Greek who said No violence must be brought on the stage?" Luckily the things were not so bad as they seemed to be at first. And it was nice to meet an old friend Flavia Petrelli again.
One disadvantage these Brunetti books have. They always make me to want to travel to Venice. I have visited Venice a few times but that is not enough.

This is my book #61 in the Reduce Mount TBR 2017 -challence by Dove-i-libri.

Tempted, tempted... But I will be a good courier and take this UNREAD Donna Leon over to rainbow3 in Edinburgh.

Annelis, I have "On the Footsteps of Brunetti" in my shelf. The book tells where in Venice each of the books took place. Although Ms Leon writes at such page that the book is probably hopelessly outdated already.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

From book 22 in the Brunetti series, read in May 2017, I flipped straight to this FALLING IN LOVE book 24 as I had it in hand. Leon in fine form and this essentially sad story has a bittersweet twist to its tragic ending. Fabulous Finnish bookmark included so I couldn’t resist passing it on with the book, I love finding ephemera hidden in the pages of books and just know many other’s must too.

This made me smile; P94 ‘Am I taking you away from anything important?’ he asked with a glance at a book she [Paola, his wife] had abandoned.
‘Truth, beauty, elegant prose, lacerating psychological penetration, thrilling dialogue,’ she listed.
‘You just can’t stay from Agatha Christie can you?’ Brunetti said and turned back toward the kitchen.

Crumbs, this has been lingering on a ‘must post to Flutterbies9’ pile for way too long – it tootled off in the post to Somerset on Wed 23 May 2018, now it's arrived. Thanks again kirjakko!
