Having seen the tv adaptation first I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book in its own right. Written from 4 points of view it was a while before DI Stanhope appeared in this book which surprised me in a good way. Looking forward to reading the next in the series after this one.

I was really excited to get this one as I've been meaning to read this series for a while. The parcel was made even better by a whole bunch of extra goodies. Thank you so much Brunton 11 for your generosity. You are a star!
So I basically devoured this over the course of yesterday afternoon, evening and night! I really enjoyed it. I love the character of Vera, and the various Geordie sayings really made me smile as I spent some of my childhood in the North East and this book had some things I'd not heard anyone say for YEARS. I'm definitely going to be reading the others in this series. Thanks very much for sending me this one brunton11. It's on a couple of other wishlists, so I hope to get it travelling again soon.

I wasn’t sure this was a Vera Stanhope book while I was reading it as long past the half way mark when the detective finally made an appearance. I didn’t really like the way the background stories of three main characters interwoven into the main story, especially Grace’s history which suddenly appeared after her death. It was very slow and plodding and I had to make myself finish it. I’m guessing the TV series was commissioned on a later book .
