I loved "the Secret Life of Bees" but since I don't have that one for you, here is the next best thing. Sorry for the delay in sending this out for the "Bookmark Sweeps".
enjoy!

Thank you very much Herchelle. What a great parcel, the bookmark you made is lovely. Also, I'm glad you didn't have the Secret life of Bees as it is actually "The death of bees" by Lisa O'Donnell which is on my wishlist, LOL. So everything has worked out for the best. This book looks good and I'm just in the right mood for this kind of novel. :-) I really liked Secret Life of Bees so am sure I'll enjoy this one.

I read this while tucked up at home with a raging cold. I thought this was a good story. I really enjoyed the characters, and liked how they responded to circumstances in a realistic way, showing their struggles.
Thanks so much for sending me this one Herchelle. I've spotted it on a few wishlists, so should get it travelling again soon.

Review:- A well-written book, if a little slow-paced at times. I loved the descriptions of the island but was horrified by the self-mutilation that took place in the story. I found it a bit too deep and spiritual at times and that it left some unanswered questions e.g. where did Jessie find the money to live on while she stayed on the island?
Towards the end of the book I found the self-harm aspect so disturbing that I had to skim the book to the end, but there again I've always been a very sensitive soul. (!) I did read it to the extent that I found out what happened to the main characters, Jessie, Hugh and Whit.

In general a bit disappointing after I had so enjoyed The Secret Life of Bees, by the same author, which I have read twice .

I am now reserving the book for Snoopy56 who I shall be meeting up with soon.

I read and enjoyed the Secret Life of Bees so I'm intrigued by the description of this book which looks quite different. But it's the cover that really appeals to me as I have a thing about shells.
