Excellent adventure story set in the 16th century. I'm not too happy about the moral teaching (for example the hero murders a guard to escape his prison), but it certainly makes for a good read.
My copy is old enough to have the family tree of Nick Beauvallet, tracing his ancestry back to Simon Beauvallet, the hero of an earlier novel. Unfortunately this is not consistent with the text.
