Grendel is a monster from the line of Cain. Every night, he goes to the castle and kills soldiers and knights alike, nobody seems to be able to stop him. However, here Beowulf comes, a renown knight who says he'll take care of things. But in the unlikely case that the hero kills the monster, the monster's vengeful mother will be a danger.
I liked it when I had to study it at university, and I liked it now. It's such a different way of narrating and telling a story, such a different society from what modern films tell us, that it's difficult to read. The translation in verse is excellent. I should know, I read it in Old English and had to translate myself some fragments from it.
