The author, J. Wallis Martin, a novelist and screenwriter, has a keen interest in mythology and cinema. She has written this psychological crime thriller in the style of Minette Walters.

When Robbie McLaughlan, a Flying Squad officer with London's Metropolitan Police, shoots and kills a robber during a bank raid, his private and professional life begin to fall apart. The family of the dead man discovers McLaughlan's identity, and abducts his young son with the intention of luring McLaughlan to his death. But McLaughlan is a man with a secret and, long estranged from his own father, he ultimately has no option but to turn to the man he despises, for only he can possibly help him.

This book will travel abroad with me. We came together to Gretna Green.

Gretna Green is a village in the south of Scotland famous for runaway weddings. It is in Dumfries and Galloway, near the mouth of the River Esk and was historically the first village in Scotland, following the old coaching route from London to Edinburgh. Gretna Green railway station serves both Gretna Green and Gretna. The Quintinshill rail crash, the worst rail crash in British history (226 recorded deaths), occurred near Gretna Green in 1915.
Gretna Green sits alongside the main town of Gretna. Both are accessed from the A74(M) motorway and are near the border of Scotland with England.
The Old Blacksmith's Shop, built around 1712, and Gretna Hall Blacksmith's Shop (1710) became, in popular folklore at least, the focal tourist points for the marriage trade. The Old Blacksmith's opened to the public as a visitor attraction as early as 1887.
