I got this fair-condition hardcover from the Used Book Superstore in Burlington, MA. It uses lovely images of animals, birds, insects and other creatures to illustrate numbers from 1 to 20, and then on to one thousand. Each image has a frame with smaller details echoing the theme, and as the number of animals increases, the challenge of finding them all in the picture increases (I gave up counting at "50 flamingos" {grin}). The subjects range from exotic creatures in remote areas to sparrows at a kitchen-window bird feeder, and all in all, the book's quite lovely.

Among the grace notes: on the "15 kangaroos" page, the image of the 'roos is in the same art style as the rest of the book, but the frame shows kangaroos and other Australian wildlife in aboriginal-art style.

At the end of the book are a series of "nature notes" describing the creatures on each page.

My kids and I found this book at Parlee Farm and the kids were thrilled! We brought it home to Pelham, NH and read it before bed. The kids loved the illustrations and the animals. We knew right away that we would bring the book with us the next day to the Boston Museum of Science. It was a big decision for my 7 year old to decide where to leave it. He decided on one of his favorite places- in the dinosaur exhibit near the fossil of the triceratops!

We found this book at the Museum of Science in my favorite exhibit.... The DINOSAURS!!! Me, mom, and dad are planning on releasing it in Disney World when we go next month if there are no objections. :)
