The Aspern Papers
This is a tale of Americans in Europe, cleverly evoking the drama of "comedie humaine" against the settings of a Venetian palace. The plot revolves around the intrigue of an unscrupulous publisher as he attempts to expose the secrets of a past some would like to forget.
The Turn of the Screw
The narrator is a young governess, sent off to a country house to take charge of two orphaned children. She finds a pleasant house and a comfortable housekeeper, while the children are beautiful and charming. But she soon begins to feel the presence of intense evil.
