This was an eye-opener to the Bible for me. Most people who have not read the Bible from cover to cover wouldn't even know some of these stories exist. The author explains some elicit stories from the Bible with a view of them from that time period. Good read.

I am starting this book on a journey through a bookray. The first person it is going to is a BCer named jennyscott. I will post the rest of the list as soon as it is official.

This is next on my nonfiction TBR list. It is a beautiful copy and so very inviting as far as picking up to read.

3-02-2004---Starting this today. I hope my knowledge base is good enough to keep up with this one.

3-27-2004---The stories were all interesting although I didn't agree with all the interpretations the author portrayed. I was intrigued by all the stories introduced. Wish I had a little more time to ponder this one but won't hold the ring up any longer.

This one arrived pretty much safely. The packaging was a bit torn and the back few pages look like they took a hit from something, but nothing that affected the text of the book at all, so it's no big deal. Will read and pass on as soon as I can! Thanks!

I sent this on without finishing it. Seeing as how I've had it for a good while now, and I wasn't especially swept away by the subject matter, I figured it would be better if I just passed it on. Thank you for the opportunity to give this book a try, and sorry for holding on to it for so long. =/

Recieved this one today. I'm currently reading another bookring book, then this one will be next.

Although I have read these stories before, it's helpful to have the background information on them and interesting to read them in a fleshed out version such as the author presents. The sparse wording of most Bible stories assumes a wealth of knowledge of traditions and history that would be impossible for modern readers without extensive study.

I received this in the mail today and am looking forward to reading it. Thanks!

I enjoyed reading these theories on some of the forbidden stories in the Bible. It was really interesting to have the background information on the different interpretations of some of the words and some of the customs of that time. Definitely information that should be taken into consideration when reading the Bible. Although it really left me with more questions than answers since these are like any other interpretations, that of the writer. We will never know concretely what exactly happened. Thanks for starting this book on its journey!

Mailed out to the next on the list!

Journal Entry 12 by little-lulu from Colorado Springs, Colorado USA on Sunday, July 18, 2004
Book arrived in good condition on July 17, Saturday so it made good time. Thank you for mailing it, mysterylady36

OK, I take the prize for having this book the longest, but I have many obligatory books to read so this one was put aside repeatedly.

I'm glad I read it, however. I was familiar with these stories and had my own theories about some of them; and had never really given much thought to the others. This book underscores how much the Bible is an adult book. Sometimes I wonder why we give copies of it to children.

The author did clear up some of my questions and raised some ideas about the origins and interpretations of these stories that I had never heard before so it is a good education and it seems very well researched. I found the endnotes and bibligraphy helpful also.

Sent to rhythmbiscuit to continue the ray on 2-23-05

I received the book today. Thank you, little-lulu! Be forewarned: I am likely to have this book for some time. I have a few bookrays and rings ahead of it.

I did start reading this book, then took a break because I was hooked on Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon. I have read the part about Lot and his daughters, a story I find incredibly strange when I read Genesis.

I am looking forward to reading more, and I will try to finish soon. I know I've had the book a long time.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

As intriguing as this book is, I just can't devote myself to it right now. I will mail it on to Terza.

Journal Entry 16 by Terza from Colorado Springs, Colorado USA on Tuesday, July 5, 2005
Hello! I have received this book, but have not yet read it. I plan to read it this weekend and then send it on. I apologize for the stall, but received several books from different sources at the same time and have been playing catch-up. I will write another entry when I've read the book. Thanks!

Journal Entry 17 by Terza from Colorado Springs, Colorado USA on Sunday, August 7, 2005
The book was pretty good. It got sidetracked for a bit as I had an emergency hysterectomy. The book was pretty good reading for recovery.

Where to next?

Terza

Journal Entry 18 by monast on Thursday, May 4, 2006
I received this some time back and forgot to journal. Just finished it after some stops and starts.

This book just blows me away. It's written in an engaging way without being too salacious, and the speculations on the origins of these stories quite entertaining.

It's up to me to release in the wild but I might start another book ray for it as it's just too good a book not to be shared.

Should be at the KLAB bookscrossing Stall

Picked this up at the Kuala Lumpur Alternative Bookfest stall today as soon as Monas unpacked it from her box. It didn't even make it to the bookshelf. Thought it was befitting - an alternative POV of these well-known biblical tale at an alternative bookfest. Plan to read it on my next vacation in a couple of weeks.
