This book could also be classified under *pop culture*.

A fun and eclectic collection of *things* found in books, used as bookmarks over the years. The author uses photos of the actual items, as well as photos of the books they were found in. The range includes handwritten and typewritten letters, event tickets, invitations, homemade cards, grocery receipts, recipes, and a variety of other sundry items. A quick read and one perhaps especially interesting for a bookcrosser!

I will turn this into a bookray if I can drum up some interest. It is hardcover, though, but under 200 pages.

Will hand this off to Bookgirl when we meet for dinner, at our mini meetup to welcome Azuki to Toronto.

Ok, is it just me who notices quirky little things? I've been known to notice odd stuff in movies, etc. But in this book, it happens again. The author makes no mention of this anywhere so I have to assume that maybe he did not notice it, himself. But there is a connection between the entry on page 88 and the one on page 135. This isn't a story that would require a spoiler alert but let me leave it to the reader to see if you can figure it out! ;-)

Happy travels!

ps - I loaded up the envelope at the back with bookmarks. Please take as many as you like or leave some, if you wish, for readers along the journey! Just for fun!

Journal Entry 4 by wingBookgirrlwing at Acton, Ontario Canada on Tuesday, June 9, 2015
This looks like a fun read. Speaking of bookmarks, I took a hard cover copy (I'd always wanted one, vs. paperback) of "A Fine Balance" from a Little Free Library in Toronto. When I got home (about 60 miles away) and flipped through the pages, I found $20 cash! A few years ago, DonFiction took a book from a "Free Books" box on my street, and inside was an old $1 and $2 bill (we don't have those anymore, just coin versions). Talk about lucky bookmarks. But, back to "Forgotten Bookmarks": I will get through it as soon as I can, add something to "find" and send it off to Squeaky Chu. (Hmmm…that name sounds familiar…maybe we've been participants in another booking/bookray…?)

Journal Entry 5 by jessibud at Toronto, Ontario Canada on Wednesday, June 10, 2015
Bookgirrl, SqueakyChu has changed her mind. You are to send it to 6of8. Check the envelope, already addressed. I've updated the list

Journal Entry 6 by DonFiction at Acton, Ontario Canada on Sunday, June 14, 2015
Great concept for a book - right up Don Fiction's alley, street, avenue etc.....once found an old book mark made of rubber - a promo from Goodrich tires in Waterloo, Ontario.......it was in one of my antiquarian books.....
Love finding $ in books - who doesn't?
At garage sales it's fun to leaf through old books not to look at the book but to look for 'buried treasure'.....a glimpse into the past......
Popek's website is also fun......

Journal Entry 7 by wingBookgirrlwing at Acton, Ontario Canada on Sunday, June 14, 2015
Donfiction and Bookgirrl have both finished this quirky, sweet, fun book. Reading it, I was inspired to send author Michael Popek my story about finding $20 in Rohinton Mistry's "A Fine Balance" (the book came from a mid-town Toronto LFL) - more on that in an earlier JE here. Who doesn't remember thumbing through a book at their Aunt/Granny/Uncle's place, and finding pressed flowers, or a four-leaf clover? And, finding a hand-written letter in this day of digital-everything, is a special occasion.
Next stop: 6of8 in Maryland

Journal Entry 8 by jessibud at Toronto, Ontario Canada on Monday, June 15, 2015
OOO! Why hadn't I thought to look for a website? Thanks for that, DonFiction!

Fun stuff! And thanks, too, for squeezing into the ray. I'll pop your name into the list!

Journal Entry 9 by wingBookgirrlwing at Acton, Ontario Canada on Tuesday, June 16, 2015
Done! Mailed! On its way to 6of8. We have to put our faith in Canada Post that the book will arrive week of June 22nd. Despite great wages, benefits, work conditions, huge mat leaves, pensions…our PO service is nowhere near that of the USA. You even have Saturday delivery! That ended up here in the 1970's.

Journal Entry 10 by wing6of8wing at Silver Spring, Maryland USA on Wednesday, June 24, 2015
This book arrived last week and I kept meaning to journal it. Before I did, though, I read it.

Fascinating! I enjoyed all the little bits and pieces of strangers' lives found between the pages of used books. Sometimes the makeshift bookmarks made for curious juxtaposition with the books they were found in. I liked the way the author did some additional research and added some information about the people referenced in the bookmark. I wished he had done so for more of them.

I will contact the next reader in line and get this moving shortly.

On it's way today to Southernfryed in S.C. Thanks Jessebud for starting this interesting bookray.

Once when I was working at a library, checking in a book and money fell out of it around $60 $70 dollars. We counted the money in the back hoping the owner discovered their loss. Sure enough someone came back claiming they left money in their returned library book AND their ATM card. We asked them how much money, it matched our count. But a ATM Card? I looked on the floor near where the book was checked in and there in the nearby trashcan found her card which she could identify. I was Christmas time and she had just been to the bank to take out cash for Christmas presents before returning her library. I've found bookmarks in books but never before had I found cash.

What a great surprise to find in my mailbox on a terribly hot day. Reading through the journal entries, I would like to say that I once found $50 or $60 (I can't remember if it was 3 twenties or 2 twenties and a ten.) in a book I got from freecycle.
I am looking forward to reading this book. I am trying to finish up my current book this weekend and will then get started on this one. Pming the next person for address.

This book is not what I thought it would be. I did find jesibud's connection between page 88 and page 135. I have pm'd the next person twice and have not heard back yet. Hope to get this book moving again soon.

Oh my gosh, I love this book! I will definitely look for my own copy. I skimmed through it as soon as I received it. I was thrilled to see two towns near where I grew up mentioned: Canandaigua, NY and Phelps, NY. The forgotten bookmark from Phelps was a late 1800's wedding invitation. Now Phelps is pretty small. If my beloved mom was still alive, I would have asked her if she recognized either of the names of the couple and I bet she would have. She was born approx. 29 years after the wedding, but I'm positive she would have had a recollection of someone by one of those names. I will PM Fancy Horse for her address as I want to get this on the way to her this weekend. That gives me the rest of the week to dip in and out of it and enjoy it. This is a fantastic book!
Also, I found the connection between pages 88 and 135:) And I've also found treasures in books......in April of this year, I bought several books from the Cape Coral Friends book sale. Inside one of the books was a birthday card addressed to a woman from a friend on the occasion of her 60th birthday. The card was dated 2007. Coincidentally, this year in September I will turn 60. And the most treasured, reading through a book of mine that I have had for several years at least I found a handwritten list of names and $ amounts my mother wrote. I imagine she marked her place in this book while reading it with her list. Whether she finished the book or not, I'll never know now. But I kept the list inside the book at her marked place and it will stay with me for as long as I have books. And someone someday may find it.
Thank you so much, Jessibud for starting this ray. Oh, and the bookmarks are wonderful too. I'll take one and add two:).

Journal Entry 17 by wingDove-i-Libriwing at Fort Myers, Florida USA on Tuesday, August 4, 2015
"Katiesmama" handed this book to me today at our meetup. What fun to meet the wonderful lady behind the BookCrossing name! I started looking through the book as Dad-i-libri drove home, and I'm already enjoying it so much! I will have to remember to look for the connection between the entry on page 88 and the one on page 135.

In the past, I've found mostly the usual things in books - slips of paper, receipts, things like that. My favorite things have been the odd photo or recipe.

"Katiesmama" had included the address for "FancyHorse" when she gave me the book this afternoon, so I'll be able to pack and send it as soon as I've finished!

Sqee! Thank you, jessibud, for starting this ring, and to Dove-i-Libra for sending me this book so quickly! We just returned from a brief vacation out of town, and it was on my kitchen counter when we returned! (My daughter-in-law had picked up our mail for us while we were gone. She would have watered the plants, too, but it rained so that wasn't necessary.)

Looking forward to getting into it! (I did check pages 88 and 135 and spotted the connection.)

I was particularly touched by the letter written by the young American soldier about to go the front in World War I. I have found many bookmarks in books while browsing through books at thrift stores. I have a collection of them and will add some of them to the book.

I have taken out bookmarks and contributed with a few of my own... which will be easy to spot.

I received and finished it today. Very interesting. Especially loved the photographs and it kind of makes me sad to know those people are long dead. I hope they've had a fullfilling life (my melancholy may also be because I finished Still Alice yesterday). I had hoped to have some more contemporary entries and more information on what happened to the letter writers (as far as possible).
I once found an old-ish card from a father who had visited Belgium and wrote to his daughter in the UK about what he visited in Belgium. I like to fantasize about the bond those two people have with each other.
I also found the connection. I will send Boekentrol a PM.
