I quite enjoyed this, the most famous of Iain Banks' stories, when I read it many years ago - although it didn't strike me as anywhere near as good as 'The Bridge' which I had read previously. Perhaps the first IB you read remains your favourite, I don't know? I remember this being a little predictable and (perhaps because of all the hype?) not actually all ::that:: horrific or shocking. Saying that, though, IB's black humour no longer has much appeal for me generally - I think I've just grown out of it. So - all in all, enjoyable enough... if that sort of thing still does anything for you... (I'm afraid it doesn't for me). I'm happy, therefore, to release this to the wider world of BookCrossing, so it can find its next reader.
