Finally, the book reached me. I hope to read it as soon as possible, so that it can travel faster now.
The book is still with me. I will finish it in the next two weeks. Sorry for the delay!

It took me a long time to read this book. Part of it because I had very few reading time, part of it because of the style. Donna Tartt described situations and feelings very closely which is very good to create an image of it. On the other hand it slows the plot. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the book very much. The character are well developed and the story holds many surprises.
The book is already on its way to the next reader.

This book is staying with me now.
I took me a long time to read the book and an even longer to decide to write a (short) review... because directly after reading it the review would have been an epic work in itself ;-)
Now it has been so long I can hardly remember what I wanted to mention...
I had the feeling, the author hasn't decided which book to write, as if she once upon a time had written a very complex essay about the picture and built the book around that.
Part of it was a crime story, part of it a coming-of-age book, part of it a philosophical essay, part of it about art, part of it - you know the drill by now.
So it had all of this and the different parts where quite good, but it still felt like parts, not like a whole book.
Which is a pity, because I liked some of the parts very much. If it would have only half of the pages - I think it could have been more my type of book (and not because I don't like books with many pages, I do)
BTW: Ich habe schon vor einiger Zeit versucht, das Buch weiterzuschicken, bisher hatten alle Lesestau oder (noch) nicht geantwortet..)

Thank you for this bookring!
Theodore Decker survives a terrorist attack at a New York art museum in which his mother is killed. He takes a painting (Carel Fabritius’ The Goldfinch) from the museum. Since his mother is divorced Theodore lives with a wealthy family friend. Then Theo gets to know the antiques dealer Hobie and a young relative named Pippa who was also in the museum and survived. Then his father plus his girlfriend Xandra show up. They take Theo to Las Vegas. There Theo meets his friend Boris, with whom he dabbles in drugs and criminal activity. Ehen Theo´s father dies in a car accident Theo moves to New York ynd lives with Hobie.
This is the setting for the first half of the book and is told in every detail.
But then the story jumps eight years ahead into Theo´s life as a grown up. And now all the loose threads are taken up again and the story starts to become really exciting. What happens with the painting that everybody is looking for? Will Theo ever be happy without drugs? Will he come together with Pippa or would it be better to start with another woman?
I liked the book and even though all the praise it gets is maybe too much- it is still a very good book, well written, an interesting topic.
--------------

It took me some time to get into the story, but then I enjoyed the read. Towards the Ende, however, I think it somehow lost a bit of its power. Nevertheless, I'm glad I didn't give up on the book...
No answer from sintra, so far.

Habs heute von der Post abgeholt, danke fürs schicken!
Das Buch ist echt ein Ziegelstein!
EDIT:
I really liked this book and couldn't stop reading. The end was a little bit stretched out and lost momentum, though. Also it kind of lacked a real conclusion. I would have liked to know what becomes of Theo as he grows older.
