This came in a bag of books for our church bookstall. The lady who brought them said I should read it, but I know somebody else who might like it too.

I was delighted to receive this from Deltic yesterday when a group of BookCrossers got together in Brigantes with kirjakko and her friend who were visiting York from Finland. Thank you, Deltic - it looks like my sort of historical fiction! Of course, with my overloaded bookshelves of books waiting to be read, I can't guarantee when I'll get around to it ....

The narrator, a young gem merchant, has to be one of the most annoying central characters ever! I don't know why, but his obsession with his lady love was really trying my patience, almost beyond endurance! Other than that, this is an entertaining adventure in 16th century Europe with a rather thrilling feels-like-you-were-there depiction of the Sack of Rome in 1527 ....
Thanks again, Deltic!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I left a couple of books on the BookCrossing book shelves in the lovely Brigantes pub today while enjoying a delicious posh fish sandwich for my lunch (highly recommended - both the pub and the sandwich!) I wish I'd taken a few more books to release as the shelves looked rather under-stocked to me …. Anyway, I think the York BookCrossers are holding their monthly Meet Up there this evening, so I'm hoping it'll find a new home! Enjoy!

Over a million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 more than ten million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!

Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't have to cost anything, although the site always appreciates donations towards running costs, and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!
