When Heaven d’Argent, who has just lost her family in a car crash discovers that the estate is entailed. Distraught, she flees to a cottage in Cornwall. Three ghosts go with her. Emma her new neighbour, has two children in hospital. Her efforts to help them lead to new friends including Geoffrey, but one resident glares at her and will not speak. Eventually she finds that he and his wife had been renting her cottage from her father, but had been summarily dispossesed to make room for her. This is so unlike her father that she knows that there had been a very suspicious manipulation of the family's affairs. Was the accident no accident but a dreadful crime…….

Mmmm.... a strange little tale, reminiscent in style of M C Beaton's Agatha Raisin series. I'm assuming it's meant to have a contemporary setting but the language & social actions of the characters are very dated - for example, Heaven is constantly addressed by her next door neighbour & friend as "Miss" - there's no mention of mobiles, internet or social media in any form & the language is quite simplistic.
It was passable but not what I was expecting. From the title, cover & blurb I was expecting Heaven to actually be haunted by the ghosts but that's misleading as it doesn't happen! (oops....sorry didn't mean to spoil anything.). The characters are a bit one-dimensional. Heaven is too sweet for her own good (IMHO) winning around everyone in the village in no time & her "romance" with Geoffrey (you will never guess who he is lol...might as well have it tattooed on his forehead) holds no surprises.
I'm wondering if this is a self-published book. I'm not meaning that to sound bitchy but it's not listed on my usual book sites & the author is local to the area I picked it up from.
