Purchased this book in a Charity shop in Moreton in the Marsh to release. Read the book and also saw the movie a few years ago, and both made an impact on me.
Here is my review from when I first read the book.
I finally read this book when prompted by an official bookcrossing release challenge. A very interesting book about Hanna - a 36 year old woman, and Michael, a 15 year old boy who have a relationship in Berlin shortly before the Second World War. Michael becomes obsessed with Hanna and even when she disappears, he does his utmost to find where she has gone. Quite by coincidence, he finds her a few years later, when as a law student he attends the court case of several women accused of murdering the women under their care from a concentration camp.
The narrator (Michael) explores his feelings towards Hanna throughout the book. He becomes involved with her again after she has been sentenced to life in prison not by having another physical relationship, but by reading to her and sending tapes to the prison.
This should make a very interesting movie.
