I have to be completely honest and say that the best thing about this book was the Pegasus on the front cover! I am a lot older than the target audience and while reading it is very obvious that this is a YA book. That's not to say it was bad, just a bit too simplified for my tastes.
That said, it was a good story. Emily, the Flame of Olympus, returns to our world when she realises that her father has been kidnapped. But in trying to free him, she comes across old enemies of Jupiter and an even older enemy behind their actions. Forced into an impossible position, she has to learn to control her powers to make any sort of happy ending.
I liked the world building here, the idealised Olympus and the not so nice world of the Nirads. The scenes in the throne room are tense and I did shed a tear or two as the battle continued. The scenes in our world, where Cupid turns his powers on the male agents, are quite funny, although the whole Forest Fair thing seemed a little too fortuitous.
So overall, a good read that my younger self would have absolutely adored.
