Thomas Pynchon's first novel since "Gravity's Rainbow".
To be read & released. As far as my memory is correct, I acquired it via BookMooch.
I just did not get the novel.
I had a lot of trouble to get through to get even slightly into the story.
The novel does not make any sense to me and more than once I felt asleep above it, after just a couple of paragraphs. It wasn't able to hold my interest and I'm glad to have got through thanks to the reading challenge I'm participating in - this will be definitely a got riddence from my bookshelves!
What I didn't like aout the book? The back-and-forth between past and present, the drug-confused descriptions, the incoherent storyline, the characters... actually, there is little I did like. The one thing I did was the references to Japan, though some of them seemed phony to me.
My conclusion? I guess this is not a novel for someone grown up at this side of the big blue water, from my generation and who couldn't care less about drugs. Or maybe it's just me.
