I recently discovered Trigiani through reading her "Lucia, Lucia," and I promptly put all her books on my wishlist. I found this one today at a library book sale for 50 cents and snatched it up!
This was a real disappointment to me, especially since I had enjoyed Lucia, Lucia by Trigiani so much. I found Big Stone Gap disjointed and unrealistic. The main character, Ave Maria, never rang true for me. I didn't understand her motivations and she didn't seem like a real person. And the plot just seemed to swing around all over the place without much direction.
I have two others books in this series, but I have decided to pass them along without reading them. I just didn't enjoy the first book enough to continue with the series.
