I've had this slightly-battered paperback on my keeper shelves for many years now, and I think it's time it went traveling. It's a collection of tales set in the same fictional world:

"The Tale of Gorgik" introduces main character Gorgik,a powerfully-built mine slave turned sex-slave to a noblewoman; from that point he gains his freedom, as well as enough knowledge and skills to become a successful citizen. But he's restless...

"The Tale of Old Venn" switches viewpoints to the plight of women in Neveryon culture, focusing on Norema, who undergoes considerable trials.

"The Tale of Small Sarg" introduces the title character, a very literal barbarian prince in the sense that his entire tribe lives on the edge of hunger, death is cheap (and painful), but he's allowed - nay, encouraged - to wear as much jewelry as he wants {wry grin}. But he's captured and enslaved, and eventually purchased by none other than Gorgik, and (after some interesting cultural discussion) they become lovers.

"The Tale of Potters and Dragons" returns us to Norema's part of the story, with some very interesting adventures indeed - not least her meeting with Raven, a mysterious and adventurous woman. At one point Norema says that if she's captured by slavers she'll kill herself; Raven counters with, "If I'm captured, I'll kill *them*."

"The Tale of Dragons and Dreamers" ties all the plot-threads together as Small Sarg and Gorgik go raiding to free slaves, and find Raven and Norema, who take up the same task.

The stories all feature lush descriptions, sometimes poetic and sometimes delightfully snarky, and there's a lot of inter-weaving of plot points - especially when the four characters, at the end of the book, discover some truly intriguing things they have in common...
