This heartwarming historical novel, set in San Francisco during World War II, chronicles the difficult friendship between an American girl and her Japanese-American friend.
Pearl Harbor has been bombed, but Ruthie and Mitzi are determined to remain friends. Ruthie, an American, and Mitzi, an American of Japanese descent, try hard not to be influenced by the anti-Japanese sentiment of the times. When Mitzi and her family are relocated to an internment camp, Ruthie writes to her friend with the hope that the two girls will meet again at the "Moon Bridge" in the Tea Garden at Golden Gate Park.
