Helium: A Novel

Ordered from BWB.
Definitely one of the best books I read this year, haunting and quite unputdownable.
Basically it is about the 1984 anti-Sikh pogroms, which the protagonist, Raj, follows up many years later - to find out what he must always have known, but didn't dare to confront. Sometimes he is a bit hard to follow, he often digresses - but this seem to mirror his inner turmoil.
It's a brilliant novel about politics and history, about human rights, about chemistry (Raj specialises in rheology, the study of the flow of matter), about secrets and about how to face the truth.
It's fiction, but because of the well-researched background it could as well have been all real - especially the illustrations gave me this feeling.
I bought myself a copy of Levi's Periodic Table right away.
Longlisted for the 2015 DSC Prize for South Asian Literature
