From goodreads
Convicted murderer and drug baron Yusuf Kaya has escaped from Istanbul prison. He appears to have had inside help. Ikmen is called to investigate Kaya's contacts in the city, while Inspector Suleyman heads to Kaya's home town of Mardin, a dangerous city in the south east of Turkey.
Purchased from my favourite 2nd-hand bookstore in Upper Hutt, partly because the author's name Nadel intrigues me; partly for the 666 challenge; and partly because I'm contemplating attending a convention in Istanbul. This tale might almost have put me off going there.

Thoroughly enjoyed this sometimes gruesome tale. I'd read one of Nadel's books in the past and it hadn't left a huge impression on me but I'm sure I won't forget the intricacies of this one quickly. Very engrossing. It rates about 7 +1/2.

Interesting to read a crime novel not set in Britain or the U.S.
I didn't understand quite a lot of the cultural and political references (though I have been to Turkey quite a few times) and took a while to get caught up in the story. Ultimately, a satisfying read.
