The silliest touch was probably the arbitrary nature of the spells Blart is taught to cast. On the other hand, I liked the (also disagreeable) Princess Lois, though I was sceptical about the gift economy. Might work when times are prosperous, but...
This is written as if it is aimed at teenagers or "young adults" as the book world seems to call them, but I'm not convinced. A couple of characters die in really nasty ways, and one in a really messy way, and I fear it may not be as suitable for children as it pretends.
