I've had this slightly-battered 1940s hardcover on my keeper shelves for many years, and I think it's time it went traveling. It's an utterly charming view of a WWII-era family, sometimes sad, often very funny... I found the book more delightful than the (classic) 1942 movie, because it allowed a better picture of Mrs. M's thoughts, whether deep or trivial, but both are enjoyable.
