A long and depressing family saga set in Malaysia. It had some really interesting parts, and some good writing, but for me too many of the characters were unlikeable, and brought too much misfortune on themselves. And although I generally love books written in different voices, this one had a few too many, and I was struggling at times to keep them all straight in my head.
