Blanca Perea is a college professor in Madrid, Spain. When her husband suddenly leaves her for another woman, Blanca feels the need to get away - very far away - so she accepts a fellowship at a university in California. Her job is to organize the papers and writings of a long-dead exiled Spanish writer. The story at face value seems to be about Blanca and her way of dealing with a broken heart. However, it becomes much more than that as she sifts through papers, makes new friends and unravels a mystery. At times I wasn't sure that I really liked this book. It was a bit slow moving at times, but it became much more interesting towards the end and the pace picked up.
