I have read about 100 pages of this book after it was recommended to me but it's really not my thing so I have decided to set it free.

Book has arrived safe and sound - thank you, have a great weekend 😊

2 July 2022 - The opening scene of this book almost put me off, the hunt for hippos and the descriptions of what happened once they got back to shore were pretty graphic and as a lover of wildlife made for difficult reading. But I read on. And overall I’m glad I preserved. The fight scenes weren’t the easiest to read, from the point of view that I couldn’t quite picture what was going on. I quite like the main character Taita, even though he could literally turn his hand to anything, medicine, art, music, languages, invention, he was almost super human. If you don’t like gore than this probably isn’t the book for you, from fights, to punishments, to hunting scenes, he really doesn’t hold back on the descriptions. And it did feel repetitive at times. However I found it quite readable and enjoyed the epic journey that was taken without knowing what was round the next bend in the river. I don’t know much about this era to know how historically actuate it is. I hadn’t realised it was part of a series when I started it, but the ending is left open for it, so I am actually quite intrigued to see where this goes next.
