"Outside! What's it look like?"
Masklin looked blank.
"Well," he said. "It's sort of big - "

this is the tale of a group of gnomes living under the floorboards of a huge department store, in a world where outside, sun, day and night are just stupid old legends nobody believes any more. until news arrives of the imminent demolition of the store, forcing the gnomes to formulate an escape plan...

although it was originally intended as a children's book, it is written with typical pratchett wit and humour (the kind that makes you laugh yet makes you think at the same time), so is just as much of a good read for adults too.

by the way, i'm a huge pratchett fan so don't listen to a word of my very biased opinion. read it for yourself and see what you think!

I love Terry Pratchett. I'm convinced that nothing he writes can be bad and this is further proof. This is the first book of the Bromeliad trilogy. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.

As always, Pratchett's characters are likable, the plot is comical and you are always hanging on to his every word. For anyone that has read all of discworld and looking for something else to read by Pratchett, here it is!

"Anyway -- because we are readers, we don't have to wait for some communications executive to decide what we should think about next -- and how we should think about it. We can fill our heads with anything from aardvarks to zucchinis -- at any time of night or day."

It was a lovely surprise to receive this book in a package with two other books from the same series, and a lovely bookmark!
I'm so glad that you were able to rescue two of these books from your basement when you found them there after buying your house!
Thank you very much rockyhorror1978, this was very generous of you.

Amazon Editorial Review:
They're four inches tall
in a human-sized world.
Under the floorboards of the Store is a world of four-inch-tall nomes that humans never see. It is commonly known among these nomes that Arnold Bros. created the Store for them to live in, and he declared: "Everything Under One Roof." Therefore there can be no such thing as Outside. It just makes sense.

That is, until the day a group of nomes arrives on a truck, claiming to be from Outside, talking about Day and Night and Snow and other crazy legends. And they soon uncover devastating news: The Store is about to be demolished. It's up to Masklin, one of the Outside nomes, to devise a daring escape plan that will forever change the nomes' vision of the world. . . .

A delightful story, and full of simple humour and fantasy!
<--- click on picture to see the "NOMES"

Like when the gnomes, (or NOMES, as they're called in the book), have stolen a lorry, and are trying to drive it. This trip is full of disasters! See quote below:

"....'And I'm not sure about One Way Street,' said Masklin. 'I think you should only go along it one way.'
'Well, we are,' said Angalo smugly. 'We're going THIS way.'....."

I am going to send this book to prachitulshan in India. She entered my rabck to guess the date that my first grandchild would be born. She didn't guess the right date but I drew some other names so that more people would get books.

This book is now wrapped, ready to post, but I will be putting it into my box of books that are to be posted whilst I am in England sometime in December, (because the postage is cheaper from there, and lack of funds make it necessary for me to do this). It will be posted before Christmas, but it won't arrive at its destination until sometime in the New Year.

Sorry about the water damage to this book, but if you read all the previous reviews you will see that it was rescued from a basement by the reader before me when she moved into her home. The damage didn't spoil the reading of this great book!

Sorry for the late JE, chamonix44! This book arrived 4 months after you sent it and I was afraid it had got lost in the mail but thankfully, no! However I was in the middle of exams and I put this on my bookshelf to journal later, but forgot. The book is in quite decent condition considering its travels and stay in the basement! I will pass this on to ecuas soon, when we meet. Thanks for sending!

Wonderful read!
I am a huge fan of Neil Gaiman and when I found out that Mr. Gaiman has written a book with Terry Pratchett (Good Omens), I had wanted to read a Pratchett book.

Truckers is a FUN book. The wit and humor in the book is wonderful and refreshing.
The Store Nomes and their belief that the Store is the entire world (ALL THINGS UNDER ONE ROOF) and the great use of usual store signs as testaments makes the book very amusing.
And the hints given by the Thing (A black box for space ships, of sorts) that the Nomes were actually inter-stellar travelers makes it that much funnier.
A must read for anybody who wants a simple, light and amusing book, just to de-stress and get away from the mundane, even if for just a little while.

Journal Entry 14 by prachitulshan at New Delhi, Delhi India on Thursday, November 17, 2011
The book is back with me, and I plan to read this and do a special release soon!

*ETA* - Had heard a lot but not gotten around to reading any, so this book was my first Pratchett...and I must say the sense of humour rocks! Was a light and fun read...enjoyed seeing the world from the gnomes' refreshingly different POV, the spoofing of Testaments being a highlight! Will def. look out for more by Terry!

Journal Entry 15 by prachitulshan at New Delhi, Delhi India on Friday, November 25, 2011

So off we go to a subway station...and on the way who should we pass but some goblins!
