Goodreads Blurb:
In a French courtroom, the trial of a woman is taking place. Gladys Eysenach is no longer young, but she is still beautiful, elegant, cold. She is accused of shooting dead her much-younger lover. As the witnesses take the stand and the case unfolds, Gladys relives fragments of her past: her childhood, her absent father, her marriage, her turbulent relationship with her daughter, her decline, and then the final irrevocable act. With the depth of insight and pitiless compassion we have come to expect from the author of Suite Française, Irène Némirovsky shows us the soul of a desperate woman obsessed with her lost youth.

I absolutely loved this book.
Its about a woman Gladys who is obsessed with her youth and her need to be a desirable woman. As the book progresses through the times and she ages, her attitude changes but age has it her main priority. Its amazing the lengths that this woman went to in order to maintain her youth and not age gracefully.
Although there are several other characters, you grow to focus solely on Gladys and how she is feeling. I felt sad that she had these thoughts and feelings that impacted her so hugely.
This book has left me wanted more from this author. A definate must read for me.

What an amazing book! When I first started reading, I disliked Gladys so much because I disapproved of her values. But her story kept getting more impressive because of the skill with which Nemirovsky created her. I kept trying to come up with simple labels for Gladys. Is she a monster of selfishness and narcissism? Is she contemptible because she's so shallow? Is she a pathetic shell, dimly aware that's there's almost nothing and nobody underneath the carefully maintained facade? And I can think of some other possibilities, too. Nemirovsky has given us a very subtle, complex portrait, one of the most memorable and fascinating books I've ever read.

But that's just one person's opinion. Future readers, what do YOU think of this book?

A fantastic read! Sad and suspenseful ,I felt both pity and disgust for Gladys. I'd love to read more of Némirovsky's books.
