Seiho Boys' High School!, Vol. 1

I got this slightly-battered ex-library softcover from Better World Books. It's a series I hadn't encountered before, involving a boys' school and what happens when one lone female arrives there.
This turned out to be more fun than I'd expected; while it does have loads of riffs on "pervy teenaged boy" behavior, it's more layered than that. And while each of the several story-arcs feature the "one girl at school" premise, there are three different girls: first, Hanai's girlfriend arrives without warning, to everyone's surprise - mainly because Hanai's gay and all the guys know it. But does Miki know, and can Maki (main character/narrator) help Hanai hide her from the faculty and protect her from the other guys until she goes home? Some amusing and occasionally touching goings-on here, not to mention lots of bishie sparkles - hunky upperclassman Kamiki wanders in from the shower to the acclaim of all the guys, including Maki ("One whiff of his shampoo makes even a guy like me giddy!").
Lots of blushing, some inappropriate remarks, some really spectacular artwork, and a touching resolution to the Miki/Hanai story lead us to the next tale. which opens with a very crude remark by the obviously-clueless Nogami, Maki's roommate (who was away for the Miki incident). Nogami has decided to undertake a project to beautify the only woman on the premises - not Miki, who's gone home, but the previously unmentioned school nurse, a late-20-something woman who looks just fine to me but who, according to Nogami, needs work to tempt a lover from among the students. Not *him*, he hastens to add - with increasing emphasis as the others realize he's actually falling for her. Will we get a sweet nurse/student relationship? We might, if Nogami can keep his mouth shut... {wry grin}
The last story highlights hunky Kamiki, who has taken to dressing in a very sloppy fashion - until his sister shows up to force him to toe the line. When the other guys hear that she's his sister they all perk up - but there are complications that cause a very poignant twist in this part of the story. (Not that there aren't funny bits too.)
The bonus story, "Land of the Rabbits", is unrelated to the main storyline, and deals with a young man who falls for an older woman who is herself in love with a still-older man - who's married. The young man sees an opportunity to win her, but complications ensue...
Surprisingly good book this, both in stories and artwork!
[There's a very short TV Tropes page for the series.]

I'm adding this to spacedog's Manga/graphic novel bookbox, which will be on its way soon. Hope someone enjoys it!
This artist has been publishing manga since 1995, no wonder the artwork looks so polished. But I believe this is my first time reading her book. Looks like it will be a seriously good read!
In the beginning I am not sure if I like the book. A busty girl showing up at a boys only school... The premise certainly sounds prime shounen material, with quite a few fan service shots of busty girls. Yet the art style is definitely shoujo. But slowly and surely, the book lands solidly in the shoujo camp with its tender love stories, and successfully won me over by its end.
Sending to the winner of the manga sweep. Congratulations and hope you enjoy this book!! Hope to see you in Mainz in 2019.
