A girl with white

in the mouth,
like a mountain hiding silver.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

It was a long hard road up the mountain. The summit close and pointed sharp in an endless blue sky. Air was a spiders web, thin and twisting along my lips.

A few more steps to freedom from the pull back down. A few more steps to a sit at the top of the world and think pretty as sat there, cross legged and arrogant. It was right there, just one more...

But such a mountain of book, could never hold up under the weight of such arrogant words, and so I slipped and fell fell..... fell, to the bottom of the TBR pile;

with no choice but to start again~

(here's to adding to your mountain!) :P

The box-o-books arrived safely today, and, yes, has given quite a boost to my TBR piles - many thanks! I adored Telgemeier's Drama, and am looking forward to this one.

Later: Wow - not what I expected at all! I'd assumed it was about a typical trouble-with-braces situation, which is traumatic enough, but poor Telgemeier suffered serious dental damage even before she was due to get braces, and had to undergo quite a few rounds of dental surgery, with the eventual braces being yet another stop on a harrowing journey.

And as if that weren't enough, she has to go through all the other perils of growing up, from self-image worries to gaining and losing friends, to coping with family members (and the occasional earthquake). Oh yeah, and first love... heck, this book should make anyone glad they don't have to go through their teen years again {wry grin}.

The story's much more of an autobiography than I'd expected, too, and it shows Telgemeier's early love of drawing - and eventual use of cartoons to help her get past some of the more painful incidents. I liked the way she took charge of her own life, and the emotional struggles she went through beforehand - it's easy to say that we shouldn't worry about what others think of us, but it's a lot harder to live that way.

I enjoyed this autobiographical graphic novel even more than I expected to! It made me grateful that I am no longer in middle school or high school and it also made me very appreciative of my two front teeth, which is not something that you can say of every reading experience! ;)

It is sad that kids can be so cruel to one another and tease one another so mercilessly, but in my experience it is true that that is the case. Thankfully, the main character lands in a good place at the end of the book and we cheer her arrival there.

Released 9 yrs ago (4/11/2015 UTC) at Dairy Queen in Prospectville, Pennsylvania USA

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I will look for a good release spot at this Dairy Queen -- perhaps a bench. While I am there, I might even get some ice cream now that it is finally warm enough! :)

ETA later: I did, in fact, leave the book in a release bag on a bench right outside the DQ. I also got a mini Blizzard. Yum! It is a lovely evening outside, too.
