Isabel Dalhousie when introduced in this book sounded like a 60 year old but turns out to be half that age. She has very philoscopical thoughts about the ethics of meeting the gaze of a salesman but no hesitation in deciding a new aquaintance is plotting a murder and spends half the book worrying about what 'people' will think of her dating a younger man but never considers the feelings of her neice whose former boyfriend said man is. Despite all this, you can't help but like her!
