This book was originally published in 1806 by an English rector, James Beresford. Despite its title, it really is one of the funniest books that I have come across and I defy anyone to read it without laughing at one point or another. This new abridged edition, edited by Michelle Lovric is full of Miseries - of the body, of the table, of the bed-chamber, of travelling, of reading and of writing etc.
