The first ever Gothic Novel!.... is utterly daft. A story reminiscent of some medieval allegorical romance, told in hilariously overblown language. (One character indicates that she's transported with delight by exclaiming "Oh, transport!") Fun to read.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Wow. This was pretty cray cray. In this grandaddy of all Gothic fiction, Walpole uses a lot of ... phallic... imagery. If the massive helmet wasn't enough for you, there's lots of towers, spears, and a huge fist. It's more of a romance than I thought it would be, albeit a twisted and incestuous romance.

Obviously very influential at the time, it hasn't aged well.
